What Does the 2021 Budget Mean For Your Business?
Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced his Autumn Budget 2021 last week.
The Budget will set out the Government spending for the next financial year.
But what does this mean for the transport industry?
1. HGV facilities
Funding will go to improve the standard of Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) parks. The improvements in the facilities will see more satisfied HGV drivers. This aims to draw more to the industry with better working conditions.
2. Road improvements
The Government plans to invest £24 billion in improving roads throughout England. This will go towards fixing potholes and other road maintenance issues. Potholes caused 1,400 breakdowns between October and December 2020

RAC head of roads policy Nicholas Lyes said:
“Any additional investment in our local roads is welcome, but this is likely to be a drop in the ocean compared to what is needed. We had hoped the Chancellor might have used his budget to announce a long-term funding settlement which would have given councils guaranteed ring-fenced funding to be able to properly maintain their road networks.”
3. Fuel Duty Frozen
Fuel Duty will remain frozen at 57.95p per liter. This is the twelfth-straight fuel duty freeze.

Mr. Sunak said:
“I am not prepared to add to the squeeze on families and small businesses. We welcome the Chancellor’s confirmation that duty will continue to remain frozen. But we’re disappointed he did not provide some respite for drivers […] when filling up the car is hurting households’ budgets more than ever before.”
4. Invest in Green
Transport Decarbonisation Plan will receive £6.1 billion in allocated funding. This plan aims to increase the number of electric vehicles (EVs) on the road. £620 million of this funding will go towards improving charging infrastructure across England.
