Digital Drivers Licences
The Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, has confirmed the introduction of digital driving licences in 2024. He confirmed plans to move provisional cards online to make a ‘fairer, greener & more efficient’ transport system.
The plan will see a new app launched by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) where you will have access to:
- Driving test certificates
- MOT certificates
- An online MOT booking system

Mr Shapps said,
“This is a golden chance to shake off the bureaucracy, invest in our future, and realise our potential with world-leading transport that benefits all of Britain.”
If the new scheme is successful there may be plans to digitise full driving licences. But plastic licences will still be available to those who need them.
A spokesperson for the DVLA said,
“We will introduce a digital driving licence for provisional drivers and also start to build a customer account facility. This will ultimately give our customers personalised, easy and secure access to a range of services and allow them more choice in how they transact with us. Our intention is to build services that are digital by desire – with digital services that are so good that people will choose to use them, making their transactions faster, simpler and with a lower carbon footprint. However, we will not be an exclusively digital organisation and will ensure we continue to operate as a multi-channel organisation, so that those who cannot go online can still transact with us in other ways.”
Steve Gooding, director of the RAC Foundation said,
“These days the one thing drivers are most likely to have with them is their phone, so using it to carry their driver’s licence could be quite handy.”
DVLA Status
The DVLA currently holds records for more than 49 million drivers. They also currently issue around 10 million new and renewed licences a year. They are also experiencing extreme backlog in services due to the pandemic and staff strikes. At their Swansea office there is currently backlog of 1.4 million applications. The hope is that introducing digital licences will relieve some of this pressure.

Fuel Station Locator App
Our App uses the geo-location of your phone to find the nearest stations in your fuel card network. It then gives users site details and the option of getting directions to their desired site through Google Navigate. The App currently has over 9000 users and is available for iOS, Android and Windows.
