Idling and The Law

Leaving an engine idling is an offence under Section 42 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. The Act enforces rule 123 of the Highway Code, which states, “You must not leave a vehicle engine running unnecessarily while the vehicle is stationary on a public road.” Local authorities in the UK currently have the power to fine drivers. Drivers can face a penalty of up to £80 after a continuing offence, meaning if they fail to turn their engine off after being spoken to by a warden.

How Can Cambrian Help?

We offer a range of telematics devices to accomodate any type or size of fleet. Our devices not only give live updates of the locations of your vehicles but also give individual drivers a score based on their driving performance. Fleet managers receive information on speeding, harsh cornering, braking and idling. This information can be used to incentivise better driving standards. Lowering emissions is both beneficial to your fuel bills and enhances your corporate brand.
