Drowsy Driving To Be Eradicated Within 5 Years – Infographic

In 2017, Drowsy drivers were involved in 53 fatal and 351 serious crashes in Britain

Technology that tracks driver’s eyes will become mandatory within the next five years.

If a driver’s eyes are closed for too long, an alarm will sound urging them to take a break.

EU rules will make the technology compulsory by 2024.

Advanced versions of the technology will tell the car to slow down and initiate a call to the driver’s phone from a call centre.

A spokesman for the Department for Transport said:

‘We continuously work with partners around the world to improve the safety standards of all vehicles.
‘These interventions should deliver a step-change in road safety across Europe, including the UK, and driver awareness technologies could help save dozens of lives a year.’
