GDPR and Your Drivers – Time is Running Out!

New GDPR laws introduced in May, require drivers to sign the D906 Fair Processing Declaration form.

To safeguard personal data, GDPR requires businesses to comply with a new set of rules concerning information governance.

Driver consent forms from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) for licence-checking by third-party companies fall under GDPR legislation.

To enable third-party companies to continue to access the DVLA driver database, drivers have to give their consent via the new form.

As this change affects around two million drivers, the DVLA have allowed fleet managers a grace period of three months in which to adhere to the new legislation.

The period ends on the 25th of August and non-compliance will see heavy fines being imposed by the Information Commissioner.

The adherence to GDPR rules are set to have a dramatic effect on the transport industry. The requirement for transparency will have a ripple effect on every business process from data storage to satnav data.
