SECOND GEAR
In slippy icy conditions, pulling away in second gear will help as the engines lower RPM’s give your car more traction and reduces wheelspins.
LEAVE MORE TIME
Anticipate adverse weather conditions and especially other road users. You may encounter accident sites or clear-up operations in progress. Plus driving slower will give you more time to react.
ACCELERATE GENTLY
Accelerating too harshly in icy conditions will cause your tyres to lose traction with the road surface and wheelspin. On slippery surfaces, you have to be more considerate of your velocity as it will take longer to stop.
WINTER TYRES
Winter tyres give you more grip. The rubber in winter tyres is formulated so that it’s flexible and can withstand temperatures of -30c
STOPPING DISTANCE
The dramatic change to the road surface will significantly increase stopping distances so you’ll to give yourself plenty of time to break.
