UK Fleets Go Green

A new study has found some UK businesses are looking to overhaul their company car policies in favour of more eco-conscious options.

According to Willis Towers Watson’s 2021 Car Benefits Survey Report, many companies are now looking into greener car benefits for employees. The study showed allowing staff can choose between a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) or battery-powered electric vehicle (BEV) as their company car is becoming more common.

Findings

35% of organizations now offer PHEVs of BEVs as an option for sales professionals and managers. This is nearly double as those in 2020.

21% of businesses said they would also cover the installation fees for home chargers.

43% of businesses said that introducing more environmentally friendly vehicles was their top priority over the next 12 months. This is up 10% from those surveyed in 2020.

61% said they will be reviewing company car benefit policies over the next year.

Best market practice was the most common reason given, with 71% of companies looking to be competitive in the market. Implementing more environmentally friendly policies was the second most common reason with 57% of companies giving this as their motivation.

Many businesses are becoming more aware of their carbon footprint and looking to reduce car travel. The pandemic has seen many businesses adopting a hybrid style of working. 27% of workforces are now mixing working from home and commuting to the office. 45% of organizations have a limit on the amount of CO2 they contribute. 24% of those that don’t currently have limits in place say they are looking into introducing one.

Reward data service consultant at Willis Towers Watson Samantha Rogers said:

“It is also great to see that so many employers are planning to introduce electric or hybrid cars. Those that do will be able to benefit from tax advantages in some circumstances. It will be interesting to see how employers seek to make their car benefit policies more environmentally friendly in the years to come.”
