Police Drop Speeding Cases
A new study from the RAC found police dropped in 6 speeding cases in the UK in the last year.
The RAC Foundation analyzed government data and found that police wrote off a total of 404,335 out of 2.4 million speeding cases. This means of all speeding offences recorded in the year 2020-21, authorities let 17% go.
The RAC Foundation has called on the Government to address this issue.

The organisation’s director Steve Gooding said:
“We urge the Home Office to start collecting data from police forces about these cancelled offences so we can understand where the problem lies.”
Eco-friendly Tyres
Enso revealed A new form of eco-friendly tyres designed for EVs this week.
The startup company Enso is offering customers their new tyres on a subscription basis. They claim these tyres are more eco-friendly as they emit less particle pollution as they wear down.
Particle pollution from traditional tyres is responsible for 28% of all ocean microplastics. This is a particular issue for electric vehicles as their tyres tend to wear down 20% quicker.
The Enso said they will also collect and recycle old tyres into new tyres, giving them a longer use life.
Shell Recharge Goes Global
A Taiwanese charger supplier has signed a new agreement with Shell.
Shell has joined forces with charge point manufacturer Phihong Technology. The partnership will see the global rollout of charging networks in markets in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and North America.
The chargers will have a capacity ranging from 30 kW to 360 kW. The first Shell Recharge station under this scheme opened in Hong Kong in December last year.
Pay for Work Parking
Councils across the UK are in discussions about workplace parking levies.
This would see businesses in the city centre charged for each parking space they have. The new proposals would see businesses face charges of up to £1,000 a year for each parking space. The RAC has criticized this move, saying that employees are likely to feel the knock-on effects and end up being the ones
paying for them.

E-scooter Accidents
New Government data shows an increase in E-scooter accidents since last year.
The report found that in 2020 the UK saw 1 death and 128 serious injuries as a result of traffic accidents involving an E-scooter. But the latest report covering June 2020 to June 2021 saw these figures nearly triple, with 3 deaths and 253 serious injuries. The new report also showed that incident numbers dipped during national lockdowns, but shot up again when lockdowns lifted.
Unsurprisingly, police in urban areas dealt with more incidents. The Metropolitan police dealt with 496 incidents involving E-scooters. This was 53.3% of the UK’s overall recorded e-scooter accidents.
Climate Neutral Vehicles
Vehicle manufacturer Polestar has announced the development of a new climate- neutral vehicle.
The Polestar 0 project launched last year with development on a new vehicle kicking into action recently. The aim of Polestar 0 is to bring companies across the supply chain with the sole purpose of reducing climate impact. By eliminating emissions from the supply chain and changing the way that cars are made, the partners expect to create a truly climate-neutral car by 2030.
